Water Warrior
In the game of water polo you have to learn how to roll with the punches, kicks, scratches, and sometimes nearly drowning. However, the best thing you can learn when playing the game is that it’s all a part of the sport and there is no room for the meek.
Last night my boundaries were pushed to the limits in a scrimmage against my own team. One minute I was defending the ball, and then the next I got cracked in the nose by a teammates’ elbow. The session lasted less then 3 minutes, but my wounds will be a prominent feature of my face for the next few days. In true water polo fashion the game was picked-up immediately after I got out of the water, and despite my captains order to bench me I still wanted back in the water for more.
As blood ran from my nose I smiled with pride and stood tall like a warrior. My nose, now black and blue, is a symbol of my pride and willingness to go after what I want regardless of being hurt.
In many ways the game is similar to life. When you fall or get pushed down you stand up and fight back....well maybe after a fiver minute breather.
